How to Stop Panic attacks

What is a panic attack?
A panic attack is a sudden sensation of intense fear which begins abruptly and reaches its maximum level
in 5 to 10 minutes. The effects of a panic attack may vary from person to person, a person may develop a fear of a heart-attack and would find himself visiting the emergency ward again and again.
It may take weeks or months for a person to overcome an intensely frightening and horrifying panic attack.

What is a panic disorder?
When a person who suffers repeated panic attacks is said to have Panic Disorder. The level of the panic disorder can be measured by a panic disorder severity scale.

Treating Panic attacks
Before beginning, I need you to understand that YOU CANNOT CURE PANIC ATTACKS OVERNIGHT , it requires time and patience.

The methods that are most effective and will actually cure panic attacks are CBT, Panic Away because they are natural and have already improved thousands of lives.

CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)

It is one of the most effective techniques to cure panic attacks. It works by finding out triggers that cause a panic attack and what causes the mind to be in the panic stage. It also helps by training on what to do if you get a panic attack in various conditions, like while traveling on an air bus.
This technique may take a long time but is 100% effective.

Panic Away

This is a program made by Barry McDonagh, he was a sufferer himself in college and now is working on techniques and ways to cure panic attacks. Here is an interview with him on what his program is about and how he formed it.

Medication

I will not emphasize much on medications because they DO NOT CURE THEY ONLY SUPPRESS the panic attacks, but i will shed a little knowledge that i have. Medications used for panic attacks include: -

  • Antidepressants: It takes weeks of continuos dosages and gives no immediate relief.
  • Benzodiazepines: It provides immediate relief within 30 minutes or so, but is highly addictive and shows withdrawal symptoms.
Use medications only when recommended by the doctor, incase of extreme panic disorder
